Paul Dale | 1st Assistant Director

Winner of Best 1st AD as voted by the FAA of BECTU

“Paul is an exquisitely talented 1st AD who I could not recommend highly enough as he has all the attributes someone could ever ask for as a 1st AD making ambitious prestige drama. His timing and ability to run a set on our shoot was simply extraordinary - in 100 days of shooting we never went into overtime once - despite some large set pieces, complicated and frequent unit moves. Paul’s work rate and stamina is impressive - he never lost his good humour across a mammothly ambitious shoot (our sixth episode alone had 124 scenes.
Part of the smooth running of the shoot was also due to his extraordinary ability to schedule accurately and practically - (even Rubix cube like multi-timeline scripts like The Devil’s Hour). His attitude is unflinchingly sunny - but never annoyingly so, His communication is first class and constant between production, all HODS and cast, and yet he never lacked tact. Paul was a massive crew favourite, always supportive to the less experienced members of the crew and able to fill any gaps in intelligent and sensitive ways. And finally, while keeping us all very safe, and never losing respect he also made our set an incredibly fun place to be! In short if you get the chance to employ him I feel it would be a mistake not to. He is a wonderful film maker who would be an asset to any production.”
